Story
The 2022 Sleeping Lady Cabernet Sauvignon hails from one of Napa Valley’s most revered vineyard sites, nestled into the southern reaches of Yountville. Set on an ancient alluvial fan, the vineyard’s gravelly, well draining soils formed by centuries of sediment washed down from nearby hills, produce small, intensely flavored berries that are the hallmark of this wine’s power and precision.
The Bettinelli family, respected stewards of Napa’s agricultural legacy, have elevated Sleeping Lady into a benchmark for Cabernet Sauvignon. With a focus on sustainable farming and exacting vineyard care, they have transformed this site into one of Napa Valley’s most sought after vineyards, where terroir and craftsmanship meet in extraordinary harmony.
Tasting Notes
In it’s inaugural release, the 2022 Simon Family Estate Sleeping Lady is a captivating expression of site and vintage. This wine opens with an aromatic rush of sage, white pepper, and bay leaf, layered with vibrant notes of black raspberry, black cherry, and dark chocolate. On the palate, it reveals a refined elegance with flavors of kirsch and fresh herbs carried by precise, linear tannins. The finish is long, lifted, and perfumed, leaving a lasting impression of grace and complexity.

From the cooler valley floor site on the western side of Yountville, the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Sleeping Lady brings to mind those old school, classic Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignons. Black fruits, currants, leafy tobacco, black olive, leather, and iron all show on the nose. It’s full-bodied, concentrated, and focused on the palate, with an ultra-classic style, ripe tannins, and a gorgeous finish that keeps you coming back to the glass. Based on 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and aged 22 months in barrels, you should hide bottles for 7-8 years if you can, and it will have 30+ years of longevity. Drink 2032-2062.
