Story

The 2022 vintage of Simon Family Estate Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is comprised of four vineyard sources, each rivaling the others in terms of caliber and reputation: Beckstoffer Georges III, Sleeping Lady Vineyard, Collinetta Vineyard, and Tench Vineyard.

Tasting Notes

A perfumed nose of mocha, tobacco, blueberry, and crushed blackberries is followed by a full-bodied palate. Structured and polished tannins support flavors of crème de cassis, graphite, and sage, with a refreshing brightness that buoys the long and exuberant finish.

The headline of the 2022 vintage is the heatwave that arrived Labor Day weekend, however with the impeccable farming and resilient vines of our vineyard sources, the palate holds plenty of freshness, with burnished tannins and a sophisticated mouthfeel.

Released March 2025

“ The 2022 vintage Cabernets are one of a kind—the wines are approachable and opulent in a young age with softer tannin profiles and very seductive textures and elegance.”

The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley comes from a mix of sites including Sleeping Lady, G3, Collinetta, Tench, and a small amount of Vine Hill Ranch and reveals smoky red, blue, and black fruits intermixed with roasted herbs, graphite, meaty, beefy nuances, and some floral notes. It’s rich and full-bodied on the palate, with a pure, layered, seamless mouthfeel, ultra-fine yet building tannins, and a great finish. Based on 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and aged 22 months in barrels, it has the structure and depth to evolve for decades while already offering plenty of hedonistic appeal today. It can be drunk any time over the coming 30 years. Drink 2025-2055.

“The classic 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is all varietal and comes from a mix of the Georges III, Sleeping Lady, Rocca Collinetta, and Tench vineyards. It has an outstanding nose of red and blac…k fruits, chocolaty oak, graphite, and a touch of chalky minerality. This carries to a medium to full-bodied 2022 offering upfront fruit, ripe, soft tannins, no hard edges, and a great finish. There are roughly 8,000 cases produced, and this is well worth your time and money.”

“Extremely precise and focused Napa Cabernet sporting black currants, black cherries, and coriander, bright minerality, with fragrant wild herbs and white pepper nuances. Medium to full-bodied. The… tannins are very pointed, precise, and long and have a beautifully sweet edge that seamlessly resolves into perfectly ripe black cherry fruit and currants with a mineral-rich finish. It’s fresh, lacy, and compact. A new project with winemaker Maayan Koschitzky at the helm, who, through the owners, is contracting for fruit with Rocca Family Vineyards in Coombsville, the famous Tench Vineyard and Vine Hill Ranch in Oakville, Beckstoffer Georges III in Rutherford, and Sleeping Lady Vineyard in Yountville. This Cabernet includes grapes sourced from Rocca, Tench, and Sleeping Lady.”

“Powerful, polished and deep, this full-bodied wine is saturated in black fruit, oak char, cocoa and espresso, with layered, fine-grained tannins and a sense of creaminess around the edges. A good bet to improve for 10 years or more. Drink or hold.”

“Simon Family Estate’s 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon reveals scents of black cherries, cassis and hints of pencil shavings on the nose. In the mouth, it’s medium to full-bodied, firm and tannic without being… overly concentrated. It’s just a nicely balanced effort, with enough spine to age gracefully for 15 years or so.”

“The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley comes from a mix of top sites (98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc) and was brought up in 75% new oak. It’s a beautiful wine that has upfron,… juicy cassis and darker berry fruits as well as textbook smoky tobacco, lead pencil, and graphite. It’s full-bodied, has a concentrated, layered mouthfeel, integrated acidity, and a great finish.”

“A blend of fruit from Coombsville, Oakville and Saint Helena, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged 18 months in 70% new French oak. It’s medium to full-bodied, dark-…fruited—cassis and black cherries—and loamy, with a thick coating of cedary mulch, but it’s soft and velvety on the long, slightly warm finish.”
