You Can’t Outsource Quality

Before we ever crushed a grape, we spent years working with our winemaker, Maayan Koschitzsky, to home in on the ideal vineyard sourcing for each of our Napa Valley varietals. The sites we’ve chosen are pedigreed vineyards with history and heritage, although not all are well known. Most are family owned, and we seek out blocks with older, established vines. We are fortunate to have long term agreements with our growers, allowing us to guide the viticultural practices toward the wine style we wish to achieve.

Alluvium Vineyard, St. Helena AVA – Cabernet Sauvignon

Sitting on the western side of the St. Helena AVA, this vineyard rests on an ancient alluvial fan with gravelly soils. The grapes from this historic site help create sweeter tannins and a darker fruit profile in our wines.

Rocca Vineyard, Coombsville AVA – Cabernet Sauvignon

This small, family-owned vineyard in the Coombsville AVA was planted in 2000. This is a hilly, relatively cool vineyard, and the fruit we source grows on an eastern slope which has an even cooler microclimate.  Rocca is one of the last vineyards we pick, and its fruit brings dark, fresh tones to our Cabernet Sauvignons.

Sleeping Lady Vineyard, Yountville AVA Cabernet Sauvignon

Sleeping Lady sits at the base of the Mayacamas Mountains in the southwest corner of the Yountville AVA. The site has been planted to vines since the mid to late 1800s and is now farmed by the Bettinellis, a multi-generational farming family known for their unstinting approach to grape growing. Our block is the oldest on the property with 40+ year old vines. Farmed for quality over quantity, the site sets a scant three tons per acre each year.

Tench Vineyard, Oakville AVA – Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc

Tench Vineyard is on the eastern edge of the Oakville AVA, where the Vaca Range meets the valley floor. It is a slightly cooler site, enjoying protection from the afternoon sun from a ridge that sits above it. This benchland area is sometimes called “Magic Mountain,” as it is adjacent to some of the finest wine producers in Napa Valley. The red, rocky, volcanic soils bring structure and minerality to our wines.

Vine Hill Ranch, Oakville AVA – Cabernet Sauvignon

Tucked beneath the Mayacamas Mountains on the southwestern corner of Oakville, Vine Hill Ranch is an historic vineyard with a farming tradition dating back to the 1800s. For over fifty years the vines on its well-drained soils have contributed fruit to some of the most highly regarded wines in Napa Valley. This west Oakville site experiences long, sunny days that contribute to a round, dark tannin profile.
