Vine Hill Ranch Vineyard Vine Hill Ranch lies along the southwestern edge of the Oakville AVA, nestled at the base of the Mayacamas Mountains where the benchland rises gently from the valley floor. This location benefits from both the cooling marine influence funneled north from San Pablo Bay and the warmth of the afternoon sun, creating an ideal balance for the slow, even ripening of Cabernet Sauvignon.
The vineyard’s soils are comprised of ancient alluvial deposits from the Mayacamas range interwoven with gravel, loam, and volcanic material. These well-drained, low-fertility soils naturally limit vigor and yield small, thick-skinned berries with exceptional concentration and purity.
Each block of Vine Hill Ranch reflects subtle variations in aspect, elevation, and soil composition. Wines from this site are celebrated for their seamless balance of power and refinement—showcasing crushed blackberry, cassis, and sage, and violets.
First planted in the late 1800s and farmed by the Phillips family since 1959, fruit from this vineyard has long been sought after by leading producers, and was the source of our 2025 Premiere Napa Valley auction lot, which earned the top bid.
